The Center for Translational Vision Research Distinguished Speaker Series, also known as "Friday Seminars" showcases innovative research across the world. The seminar series has now been expanded to include lectures by experts on topics ranging from Ophthalmology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Neurobiology, Imaging, Computational Sciences to Novel Ophthalmic Treatments.

Budd Tucker, PhD
  • Professor of Ophthalmology; Director Ruby Retinal Engineering Laboratory, Institute for Vision Research, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa.

Dr. Tucker (he/him) is a Professor of Regenerative Ophthalmology and the Director of the Steven W. Dezii Translational Vision Research Facility and Ruby Retinal Engineering Laboratory.

Dr. Tucker's laboratory is focused on combining state-of-the-art gene, autologous stem cell and tissue engineering based approaches for the evaluation and treatment of neurodegenerative blindness.

Dr. Tucker attained his Ph.D. from the Memorial University of Newfoundland and completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard Medical School in Boston. In 2010 Dr. Tucker joined the University of Iowa's Institute for Vision Research and formed Tucker Lab. Since joining the IVR he has created and built the DTVRF.
