Annual Vision Research Competition

This prestigious competition invites aspiring trainees in the field of ophthalmology to showcase their groundbreaking research initiatives.

Gear up for the ultimate clash of intellects at the Annual Ophthalmology Research Awards Competition! It's a fierce battleground where ambitious trainees in ophthalmology vie for extramural grants from a top-tier agencies. The stakes are high, and the competition is intense – only the most visionary and innovative projects will emerge victorious. The competition consists of 3 rounds, each is rewarded with a nice prize!

First Round – submit your initial proposal to the extramural agency with a budget exceeding $25,000 in direct costs to the ophthalmology committee. If the committee selects your proposal among others to move forward with the official submission, you will be awarded $500!

Second Round - the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute (GHEI) adds a thrilling twist. For those daring enough to submit their proposals to the NIH, ophthalmology selection committee sweetens the pot with an extra $500, reserved for those who weather the storm of scrutiny and escape triage, coming out in the top 50% in the review and scoring process. It's a bonus for the boldest, an accolade for the audacious. Your application has to be scored! Please submit the scoring details to the committee.

But that's not all – the spoils of victory extend beyond the grants themselves. Third Round. The triumphant proposals will revel in an additional $1,000 bounty if your proposal is funded by the extramural agency, a true testament to the champions of this relentless competition. Submit Proposals

Competitions run during the fiscal year period, from July 1 though June 30. The applications will be reviewed, scored, and selected after the June 30 deadline. The winners and the awards will be announced in the fall/winter following the June 30 deadline.
