As a result of the success of our current faculty and the recruitment of new faculty, the NIH funding of the Department of Ophthalmology at UCI quadrupled, boosting our ranking from the top 40 to the top 16 (based on Blue Ridge ranking data) among Ophthalmology departments in U.S. public institutions. Various Positions Project Scientist Appointees in this series must have earned a doctorate or its equivalent. Project Scientist will work independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator to make significant and original contributions to a research. Project Scientist will contribute to the maintenance of laboratory equipment and assisting in proposal and manuscript writing. Project Scientist may be an ongoing member of a research team or may be employed for a limited period of time to contribute high-level skills to a specific research or creative program. Apply Now Post Doctoral Fellows Postdoctoral Researcher will design and test hypotheses in the field of ophthalmology. They will organize and conduct highly specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures. In some cases they will be designing new protocols which should drive to conclusions relevant for vision science and translational medicine. Postdocs are expected to contribute to manuscript preparation and will assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory. Additionally, they will provide supervision and guidance to junior technicians, students, and researchers. Apply Now Students Under the supervision of Principal Investigator conducting the research project, the Student Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the PI in a variety of non-administrative tasks which may include preparing resources, equipment, materials for the research, documenting results, etc in support of the research activities. Research projects should ideally lead to a thesis or be directly related to the student’s area of study. The research project is intended to provide the opportunity to learn proper research procedures and techniques. The supervising PI is responsible for providing ongoing feedback and a formal assessment throughout and at the conclusion of the assistantship.
