  • Tingting Yang, PhD, Associate Professor, Columbia University

Tingting Yang, Ph.D., is a molecular and structural biologist whose research has advanced the understanding of ion channels in the eye and their roles in retinal disease. She earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and currently serves as Associate Professor of Ophthalmic Sciences at Columbia University. Throughout her career, Dr. Yang has made important contributions to understanding the structure, function, and regulation of bestrophins, a family of ion channels involved in vision and ocular physiology. Her laboratory investigates how mutations in the BEST1 gene contribute to inherited retinal degenerative diseases, including Best disease, and explores new approaches for their treatment. Using techniques including structural biology, electrophysiology, genome editing, and stem cell models, Dr. Yang’s research aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying retinal disease and develop gene therapies and other targeted treatments to preserve and restore vision.
