The Center for Translational Vision Research Distinguished Speaker Series, also known as "Friday Seminars" showcases innovative research across the world. Dr. Richard Lee, M.D., Ph.D., is the Clinical Director of the National Eye Institute (NEI) at the National Institutes of Health, where he leads efforts to integrate cutting-edge clinical research with translational discoveries in vision science. Prior to joining NEI, Dr. Lee served as Clinical Director of Research and Development at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and as Professor of Translational Immunology at University College London (UCL) Institute of Ophthalmology. His research and leadership have focused on advancing regenerative and gene-based therapies for retinal and optic nerve diseases, bridging laboratory innovation with patient-centered care. With a background spanning immunology, ophthalmology, and clinical translation, Dr. Lee has been instrumental in developing multidisciplinary programs that accelerate bench-to-bedside applications in ocular health. His career reflects a commitment to fostering collaboration across international research networks and implementing innovative strategies to improve outcomes for patients with blinding disorders.
