The Brunson Center for Translational Vision Research Distinguished Speaker Series, also known as "Friday Seminars" showcases innovative research across the world. The seminar series has now been expanded to include lectures by experts on topics ranging from Ophthalmology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Neurobiology, Imaging, Computational Sciences to Novel Ophthalmic Treatments.

Matteo Rizzi, PhD, is a leading vision scientist whose research focuses on understanding visual perception and developing innovative treatments for retinal degeneration and blindness. He serves as Group Leader at Moorfields Eye Hospital, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, and The Francis Crick Institute, where he leads interdisciplinary research on visual function, disease modeling, and gene therapy. Dr. Rizzi has previously conducted research at University College London (UCL) and RIKEN in Japan, contributing to advancements in vision science and translational ophthalmology. His laboratory combines patient vision testing with disease modeling to better understand retinal disorders and develop gene therapy approaches aimed at restoring sight and improving outcomes for individuals with inherited and degenerative eye diseases.
