Kinga M. Bujakowska, PhD, is a scientist at Mass Eye and Ear and an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. Her research focuses on the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying inherited retinal diseases, with a particular emphasis on conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa and other forms of retinal degeneration. Dr. Bujakowska’s work explores how mutations in genes involved in RNA splicing, photoreceptor function, and retinal homeostasis contribute to disease pathogenesis. Her research has identified key genetic variants associated with retinal disorders and investigates how these mutations disrupt cellular processes in the retina. Her laboratory integrates genomic analysis with functional studies in cellular and animal models to better understand disease mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic targets. Through these efforts, her research aims to advance precision medicine approaches and develop novel strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of inherited retinal diseases.
