The Brunson Center for Translational Vision Research Distinguished Speaker Series, also known as "Friday Seminars" showcases innovative research across the world. Benjamin P. Kleinstiver, Ph.D., is a leading genome-editing researcher whose work focuses on engineering CRISPR technologies to improve the precision, safety, and versatility of genetic medicine. He earned his PhD at Western University in the laboratory of David Edgell before completing his postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. As an Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and Associate Investigator at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Center for Genomic Medicine, Dr. Kleinstiver leads research focused on protein engineering, CRISPR enzyme development, and genome-editing technologies. His laboratory develops engineered CRISPR enzymes with expanded targeting ranges, improved specificity, and enhanced editing capabilities, with the goal of overcoming current limitations in genome editing and advancing new approaches for the detection and treatment of genetic diseases.
